The country of Sri Lanka represented by a parent at our last International Day.
PARENTS AS CULTURAL AMBASSADORS One of the highlights of International Day is the enthusiastic participation of parents. They take on the role of cultural ambassadors by decorating tables representing their home countries. Each table is a feast for the eyes, adorned with national flags, traditional artifacts, and colorful decorations that reflect the unique heritage of each nation. Parents also share a small sample of food from their country, offering students and other visitors a chance to savor international delicacies. From spicy curries to delicate pastries, the culinary diversity is a gastronomic adventure. PERFORMANCES OF TRADITIONAL DANCE AND MUSIC The school’s main stage becomes a platform for a series of performances that showcase traditional dances and music from different cultures. The rhythmic beats of music and the graceful movements of dance help contribute to the day’s festive atmosphere. These performances not only entertain but also educate the audience about the significance of these cultural expressions. |
LOWER SCHOOL STUDENT ACTIVITIES
For the younger students, International Day is an exciting journey of discovery. Armed with specially designed “passports,” lower school students tour the different country tables, collecting stamps and learning fascinating facts about each nation. This interactive experience makes geography and cultural studies come alive. Each table visit includes a brief educational segment where students can ask questions and engage in hands-on activities like trying on traditional clothing, playing cultural games or tasting the cuisine. MIDDLE SCHOOL & UPPER SCHOOL STUDENT ENGAGEMENT Middle School and Upper School students also have the opportunity to tour the globe by visiting the tables representing different nations. In addition, they will deepen their global understanding through a series of engaging speakers. These speakers include international students, parents and teachers and staff who share personal stories of cultural identity and migration. These sessions encourage students to think critically about their place in an interconnected world and inspire them to become proactive global citizens.
